Deformations

The subsidence méso-cénozoïque of Paris Basin can be considered as the combination of two processes:

  • A long-term thermal subsidence,
  • Tectonic pulsations affecting the western part of the Eurasian plate, cutting the evolution of the pond in 5 main stages.
  1. Upper Permian era - Toarcien, ended with the phase médio-cimmérienne,
  2. Aalénien - Tithonien, ended with the phase finity - cimmérienne,
  3. Berriasien - Aptien, ended with the Austrian phase,
  4. Albien - upper Turonien,
  5. Turonien upper - Recent.
