Present on a good part(party) of the hexagon Camponotus ligniperdusCalled also ants a carpenter or to carpenter ants, is one of the biggest let us tax that we can find in France. Sort(species) rather mountain dweller, living in forest environment(middle) in the biggest majority, monogyne (1 queen by colony(summer camp)), the size of the workers of which varies some 6 in 14 mm ( stressed polymorphism) and the queen until 18/20 mm, lives mostly in the earth(ground) (terricole ) but can meet also in the dead wood lignicole ) nests being situated generally in wooden border, essentially of conifer, in border of roads often under stones.

Not a lot of information concerning the number of workers to a mature, grown-up colony(summer camp), ligniperdus C. in the literature. It would seem that this figure is understood(included) between 3000 and 6000 ants according to certain publications concerning herculeanus C. and by keeping(guarding) for the spirit that this last one remains very nearby of C. ligniperdus. 3000 seem little nevertheless and beyond 6000 it would seem because of the all the same important size of the sort(species) a lot.

Being able to be easily confused(merged) with his(her) neighbor Camponotus herculeanus She(It) postpones nevertheless by one Slightly clearer color.

The front of the gastre (1 er tergite) being appreciably of the same reddish color as the thorax and the scale especially visible pétiolaire at the queens and the said workers "media" and "chief warrant officer"("major company") make a means which can be used to recognize her(it) on the ground.

Young queen fraichement fertilized in search of a shelter to base(establish).
