The Instrumentum Laboris, the working document of the upcoming Synod of Bishops has been presented to the press, this Tuesday, June 19. Devoted to "the new evangelization to the transmission of faith" the XIII° ordinary general assembly of the Synod will take place from 7 to 28 October at the Vatican. The document is a result of responses to the Lineamenta, a detailed questionnaire sent to all the local Churches, the Dicasteries of the Curia, to the Union of Superiors General, and to other institutions and communities. It consists of an introduction, four chapters and a conclusion.
Romilda Ferrauto Lighting (Vatican Radio): >>
50 Years after the opening of the Vatican Council II, we found among the Christians a crisis of confidence in the values with which they were transmitted; they are not prepared to fully join and without conditions to the truth of Revelation. The faith lived in an individual manner and respondent is weakened. It is imperative to react to this situation. Therefore, the Church must find new tools, a new language, but also to renew itself from the inside to get his message in the new world deserts.
The document calls to get rid of a number of false certainties today widespread among Christians: as, for example, to consider that the evangelization is a violation of the freedom of the men; or that it is sufficient to act in favor of justice, of freedom, peace, solidarity, without doing anything to promote the conversions to Christ. Another caveat: to evangelize, the Church must be credible; it should present itself as a true fraternal community and not as a company; it does not have to put in place effective communication strategies, but rather to renew itself in is measuring with the sins of some of its members.
The second chapter analyzes in detail the social changes in recent years with their shadows and their lights: the secularization, the loss of the sense of the sacred, the discount in questions of values .... and proposed a series of tracks of actions: charity and testimony of life; ecumenical and interreligious dialog; revitalization of the parishes with the assistance of the laity baptized, of communities and movements; pastoral care of vocations and adequate training of seminarians and novices. The paper emphasizes the importance of the catechists and discussed the possibility to create for them a stable ministry within the Church. It proposes the priorities to revive the pastoral action: the popular missions, the preparation for marriage, the education of young people ..... the integration of different charisms is encouraged.
The text calls Christians to do their self-criticism and to denounce their apostasy silent; it severely of the finger tip the Church itself, its infidelities and its scandals, his lack of sensitivity toward the problems of the men of today, the excessive bureaucratization of ecclesiastical structures .... If the faithful will move away from the Christian practice, it is also because the spiritual accompaniment is faulty.
The challenge is well to bring the question of God in the contemporary society but to transmit the faith, there believe and live it. The task was difficult. Christians are called to be of the intrepid witnesses of the Gospel and to live with a quiet strength their identity as son of God. The Church is called to purify themselves and to repair the errors committed.
Finally the Gospel is presented as a cure which strengthens the joy and the life and fight the fear. OF or this reminder of the famous "Do not be afraid" launched by John Paul II.
The secretary general of the Synod of Bishops is satisfied: the answers to the questionnaire sent to all episcopates reflect the reality of the local churches. Bishop Nikola Eterovic acknowledges, however, that there will be challenges, difficulties in sharing in a fraternal dialog, of the tracks to find to overcome them and to be able to announce the Gospel to the men of today and the new generations. John Paul II - he recalls - claimed that the evangelization was to renew in the ardour, the expression and the methods. The Church is called to revive its ordinary pastoral work, it must reach, in priority, the baptized who have not been sufficiently evangelized or who have distanced themselves from the Church and show them the news of the Gospel. And since the new evangelization past by the conversion, Archbishop Eterovic is convinced that the next synod will help the Church to overcome its current difficulties and that it will generate a new Pentecost in the Church and in society. The secretary general of the Synod also counts on the new technologies to convey the richness of the Christianity.
The 50th International Eucharistic Congress held in Dublin, Ireland since a week has concluded this Sunday afternoon. Cardinal Marc Ouellet, papal legate, has chaired the Statio Orbis, the messe closing, in the iconic stadium of Croke Park, one of the symbolic places of the Irish capital. A video message from the Pope was broadcast during the celebration. A message on the merits of the post-conciliar liturgy, which has allowed a greater participation of the faithful in the Mass, Benedict XVI putting caution, however, on some derivatives. A message also to the drama of the sexual abuse in the Church of Ireland, the Pope saying once again shocked and deeply saddened.
